Wake Up Now by Edinburgh based artist Alice Boyle explores what it means to be truly awake. It is about becoming more aware of your thoughts, taking control of your mind and not allowing meaningless things to take away your joy. The painting is created by building up layers of plaster and carving into the final surface, usually with the end of a paintbrush before it dries. Acrylic paint is then layered over the textured surface, allowing the image to gradually emerge.
