Don’t Be Afraid by Scottish artist Alice Boyle reflects on the fear and uncertainty felt collectively during Covid and lockdown. By 2022, Boyle felt that fear was still very present and the work became a reminder not to let fear continue to control everyday life. The painting is created by building up layers of plaster and carving into the final surface, usually with the end of a paintbrush before it dries. Acrylic paint is then layered over the textured surface, allowing the image to gradually emerge.
