Paintings - 2021/20
Boyle lost her mother to cancer at the end of 2019, quickly followed by the uncertainty of lockdown. This period gave rise to the collection below. Although the paintings are full of colour, there is a deeper, more subdued quality to the palette. Boyle was drawn to working on a smaller scale, creating paintings with a quieter, more introspective energy. During this time, Boyle felt compelled to make repetitive marks, using the process as a way of zoning out, almost like meditation. Looking back, she can see what she was going through and recognise how much was being processed through the paintings, often without her consciously realising it.
